Case Histories > Ohio In The Civil War - Close-Up

Lady's Fan, Rolled Bandages, and Patriotic Cockade

The lady's fan of the nineteenth-century was made of paper and wood. It was a necessity to cool a lady on a hot day. Women supported the war effort in individual and organized ways. They may have joined the Soldiers' Aid Society and rolled bandages or collected supplies for the soldiers. They wore a patriotic cockade to support the Union cause.
