Enlistment Forms - Facsimiles of an actual of Volunteer Enlistment Forms covered many circumstances:
The enlistment itself, the Declaration of the Recruit, the Surgeon's Certificate, a statement of
Substitution (if applicable), and a Consent in Case of a Minor (if applicable).
Morgan's Raid - This copy of a Guernsey County, Ohio Report of Losses lists the losses and
injuries that occurred during the Raid through Ohio of General John H. Morgan and his cavalry. It
states a total loss to the area of $25,986.97.
Henry B. Richardson - This is a copy of a primary document letter of Henry Richardson to Ohio
Adjutant General H. B. Carrington volunteering to organize an infantry company at Ravenna, Ohio.
Railroad and Township Map - This is a copy of an actual 1857 map illustrating the railroad
network throughout Ohio prior to the Civil War. The railroads assisted both the North and South in
moving men, equipment, and supplies during the war.
Recruitment Broadsides - Posting broadsides were common ways to advertise during the Civil
War. Here are examples of two: dated October 2, 1861, men are ask to volunteer at Camp Putnam at
Marietta, Ohio; and
Dated September 10, 1862, the Governor is calling up a Militia of 10,000 men to defend Cincinnati,
Ohio.
