Ohio in the Civil War Through Primary Sources compact disk
Virtually all Ohioans were touched by the American Civil War in 1861 - 1864. With more than 3000,000
soldiers enlisted, Ohio was surpassed on by the state of New York in the number of soldiers
participating, and by the number of homes disrupted by the difficulties of war. Here, some of their
stories are told about the challenges young soldiers faced, and the hardship of changing roles at home
face by the women left behind.
This compact disk brings the Civil Was to the user by presenting 78 authentic documents, images,
letters, diary entries, music, and news articles drawn from the vast Civil War collection of the Ohio
Historical Society Archives/Library. These have been digitally scanned and are printable so one can
view the images in either an electronic or printed format. Many of the written documents are
available with printable transcripts.
Additionally, each document is accompanied with optional lesson plans and activities to bring each
document to life for the learner - whether a student or a Civil War enthusiast.
