Fort Laurens was the site of Ohio's only Revolutionary War fort. Founded in 1778, it was intended as a supply outpost in a failed campaign to attack the British stronghold at Detroit. Besieged briefly in the winter of 1779, the fort's nearly starved inhabitants were relieved when the plan to attack Detroit never materialized. The fort was abandoned n August of 1779.
The Fort Laurens museum details the history of the military campaign and includes items unearthed at the site. The tomb of Ohio's unknown patriot, a memorial to the heroes of the American Revolution, also is located Fort Laurens.
