Ohio Statehouse

The Ohio Statehouse is the fourth building used for Ohio government. Chillicothe (1803-1810 and 1812-1816), Zanesville (1810-1812), and Columbus (1816 - present) share the honor of being the capitals of the state through the years. The Ohio Statehouse is a working statehouse. It is the place where the Legislature (Senate and House of Representatives) meets and conducts state business. Recently restored and re-opened in 1996, the Statehouse appears much as it did when it was completed in 1861. Carefully concealed modern utilities allow the Statehouse to operate with this century's technology.

The Ohio Statehouse is no longer managed by the Ohio Historical Society.
