Compare the life in the past and present in a way that demonstrates an understanding that basic human
needs remain the same, but are met in different ways.
Grade level indicators
1st Raise questions about how families lived in the past and use photographs, letters, artifacts
and books to clarify what is known and unknown.
1st Compare past and present daily lives.
2nd Use historical artifacts, documents, photographs, biographies, maps, diaries and folklore to
answer questions about the past.
2nd Recognize the importance of individual action and character and explain how they have made a
difference in other lives with emphasis on retelling the stories of past personalities
2nd Identify the work that people performed to make a living in the past and compare with
similarities and differences today.
