The History To Go Van
The Ohio Historical Society's "History To Go" van takes to the road every school year, bringing Ohio's history to life for thousands of students in schools, classrooms, libraries, and latchkey programs throughout the state. Education staff and volunteers, costumed when appropriate, and equipped with hands-on reproduction items, education collections, and props, literally bring the museum exhibits to you as they pull into school parking lots, natural areas and other educational venues in the state.

Costs:
Half-day: $200.00 + mileage
All-day: $350.00 + mileage
One-hour: $75.00 + mileage (Franklin County "latchkey" only)

NEW PROGRAM Art-to-Go Van Soul! Art from the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center: (May 1, 2009 - February 28, 2010)
Soul is a showcase of African American art from the National African American Museum and Cultural Center, created over the past 200 years. The Art-to-Go Van will bring this experience to schools and other educational venues. Using a presentation and hands and minds-on stations, students will discuss what is art, what is African American art, what does it have to tell us about the African American experience, use critical thinking skills while viewing art, and create their own works of art.

Agriculture and Nature Experience: (Year-round)

Using a presentation and hands-on activity stations, students will learn about agriculture and nature, examine artifacts and reproduction items relating to agriculture and nature, learn of the importance or agriculture historically as it is today, learn farm animals, crops, conservation, climate, the food pyramid, etc.

American Indian Experience: (Year-round)

Using a presentation and hands-on activity stations, students will learn about the American Indian of prehistoric and historic times, examine artifacts and reproduction items of these peoples, compare and contrast then vs. today, and participate in many games, crafts, activities, etc.

Pioneer Life Experience: (Year-round)

Using a presentation and hands-on activity stations, students will learn about pioneer life in Ohio prior to statehood, examine artifacts and reproduction items of that time, play pioneer games, compare then and now, try on pioneer clothing, etc.

Achievement Advantage: (Year-round)
(67 k)
Students have the opportunity to sharpen the skills necessary for success in the upcoming achievement tests with this engaging program. The students will work with timelines, maps, artifacts, and more as they participate in hands-on activities to solve problems. Achievement Advantage focuses the Social Studies Academic Content Standards and is based on the grade level indicators for fourth and fifth grades.

The 1940s and World War II Experience: (Year-round)

Using a presentation and hands-on activity stations, students will learn about the times during the 1940s, examine artifacts and reproduction items of the 1940s, examine maps, compare and contrast then vs. today, try on 1940s uniforms and clothing, make crafts, etc.
