> Historic Times in Ohio
The following programs focus on the historic times in Ohio from the
beginning of the historic period about 1660 CE (or AD) through
yesterday. Each program has been designed with the new Social Studies
Academic Content Standards in mind. These programs are produced at the
Ohio Historical Center using actual artifacts, video streaming, remote
cameras, blue-screen projections, and theatrical sets among the
innovative techniques used to make history come alive for all students.
The fee for each of these programs is $50.00 for each in-state program
and $125.00 for connections out-of-state. Advance registrations are
required and may be made by contacting the Scheduling Offices at the
Ohio Historical Center at 614.297.2663 or 800.850.3245.

Program: American Indian Culture: Past and Present (September through May)

Students will interact with the presenter to learn of the culture and
traditions of the American Indians of the past and present. Topics such
as food, clothing, housing, and schooling will be discussed during this
broadcast.
Program: Archaeology (September through May)

During this interactive program students will learn the basic terms, methods, and
tools of archaeology. The class will compare and contrast the archaeology of yesterday
with the way it is practiced today.
Program: Show Me, Tell Me about American Indian Heritage (September through May)

During this program, students will interact with a presenter who will
discuss how the contact with European settlers affected American Indian
life. Among the subtle changes that affected their lives forever were
the introduction of the fur trade and the introduction of metal. This
broadcast is accompanied by printable Teacher Guide (1,115k PDF)

Program: You Can Make History, Too! (September through May)

This series of programs is for younger students. They will be introduced
to Arbuckle, a 200-year-old turtle (a puppet) who will assist them with
their exploration of events that make history. Music, stories,
artifacts, and primary sources are used in these interactive
presentations that cover six themes.
Program: Who Can She Trust? (September through May)

The period of the Underground Railroad is the setting for this
interactive program as students are asked to help a run-away slave as
s/he makes the way to freedom. Through conversations with these people,
s/he will come in contact with, s/he will have to evaluate who they feel
is safe and can be trusted with her life.
Program: The Case of Bothersome Women (September through May)

This program focuses on the rights and non-rights of women in the United
State through the 19th century. Students will be drawn into the
activism and indifference that citizens were exposed to during this
time. How did women get the right to vote? Who were their allies? Who
were their opponents.
