My Town, Ohio

Third Grade Curriculum from the Ohio Historical Society

The study of local history - the town or community in which one lives - is an important key to understanding the past. But how does one go about it? More specifically, how can a teacher "Describe changes in the community over time" (Grade Three, History Grade Level Indicator 3, Growth)... especially if one is new to the community or knows nothing of its past?

The Ohio Historical Society's Educational Services office, working in partnership with the Local History Office, the local historical societies around the state, and the Ohio Department of Education, has created this web site to assist third grade teachers in unraveling the mysteries of a community's past.

Whether its changes in businesses, architecture, transportation or technology, this site will help teachers with the research process and the specific primary sources that reveal how changes in a community has occurred over the years.
